Jiafei Dai (Chinese: 戴嘉菲,[1] Pinyin: Dài Jiāfēi), more commonly known as Jiafei, a.k.a Dai Dai (Chinese: 戴戴, Pinyin: Dài Dài), born March 6, 1996, is a Floptok meme that originated from a photo, used as a profile picture by bots on the website that posted advertisements for Chinese products, and sexual messaging baits in late 2019 through early 2020.

The song used in most ads (Ye Hua Xiang by Mo Si Man) also became part of the meme. Part of the Floptok phenomenon, Jiafei was stanned and seen as real person. In late-2023, a Chinese socialite known as Dai Dai found out she was the face of the meme and revealed her identity.

Outside of Floptok[]

Jiafei's real name is Daidai (Chinese: 戴戴). She was born on March 6, 1996, in Lanzhou, China.[2] She was a model when she was 14 years old. She had a height of 176 cm at the time. She occasionally goes to her beach house in Sanya.

Floptok History[]

The Jiafei Bots[]

Jiafeiii

Another perspective of the commonly used Jiafei profile picture.

In February 2021, bot accounts featuring profile pictures of Asian women commenting sexual things in attempt to lure users into clicking on suspicious links in their bios started to spawn on TikTok. Floptok appropriated this concept and parodied it by creating usernames with the word,"Jiafei" since it was the most popular bot account name and utilizing the well-known Jiafei image.

This trend progressed and started incorporating Chinese products, which was another type of Chinese content farms that were happening on TikTok at the time. Chinese bot accounts, aiming to promote products through advertisements, also emerged while using Jiafei as their profile picture.

The iconic Jiafei image was rumored to be a combination of the faces of K-Pop stars Wang Feifei and Meng Jia until Ranvision posted a video on October 23, 2023, revealing the authentic account of Jiafei, which also happened to be the original profile from which the Jiafei picture originated from.

Jiafei evolved into a symbol of Floptok discourse and spurred the creation of multiple parody accounts that exploited the iconic scream sound effects and concepts like kidnapping through IP addresses.[4]

The "Jiafei Scream"[]

In a TikTok video, an absurd advertisement for a face shield which featured a screaming woman cooking with a transparent umbrella when she placed food in the pan. The pan subsequently explodes into flames. It later showed the product which protects your face while cooking.

This went viral in mid-2021 from Jiafei accounts that shared it. An early example was uploaded on May 11, 2021, by the TikTok account foodloverdogjia and advertisment79,[5] earning roughly 7,600 plays and over 800 likes in 12 months. The scream emitted by the woman became known as the "Jiafei Scream" and was remixed into more sounds continuing into 2021.

Discography[]

As of 2024, Daidai has recorded four singles, Love u like a 野花香, Every 野花香, Queencard.女王卡(戴戴.ver) and Gimme More (dai.ver). Her official Spotify account is Jiafei.dai.

"Jiafei is not an AI" reveal[]

On November 16, 2023, user @ddrbq0306 with display name "戴戴惹不起" posted a video clearing up the allegations of Jiafei being an AI-generated image and was actually her. Flops suspected Newgens or DaBoyz made up the rumor that the image widely use to represent Jiafei was an AI.

In a TikTok, Ranvision disclosed, "So turns out, the picture we've been using for Jiafei is actually a real person with beauty filters on her face. The picture we've been using this whole time—there's like three other pictures that she took in the same location."[6]

In Ranvision's second video, he provided additional context regarding Jiafei, substantiating his claims by showcasing her TikTok account as evidence of her identity.[7]

Trivia[]

  • Jiafei has her own YouTube channel named Jiafei dai.
  • JiafeiVEVO is not a real Jiafei YouTube account. It is neither associated with Daidai nor with Mo SiMan.
  • Jiafei on Spotify is not a real Jiafei Spotify account. Her real Spotify account is Jiafei.dai.
  • The name Jiafei originated from a rumor that Jiafei (more specifically her photograph) was a photoshop creation that fused Wang Feifei and Meng Jia, members of the K-Pop group Miss A. This rumor was proven to be false after Daidai revealed her identity on Douyin and on TikTok, and that "Jiafei" was simply a random name made by the bots.
